V = Verticillium Wilt Effects: Tomatoes. Symptoms: Leaves wilt in hot weather, appearing to recover in evenings.Lower leaves turn yellow. If the stem is cut open brown streaks are found running through the stem tissue. Treatment: Mulch around stem so new roots can form. Keep at 20 C for 2 weeks. Do not replant in infected soil.

Blossom End Rot Effects: Tomatoes. Symptoms: Leathery dark coloured patch occurs at the bottom of the fruit. No Treatment, pick ripened fruit and cut off affected area. Do not allow soil to dry out whilst fruit is developing.

F = Fusarium lycopersisii, race 0 Effects: Tomatoes. Symptoms: One of several virus that cause leaves to be mottled and curled. Stems may have dark streaks and foilage may be thin and distorted. Fruit is oftem mottled and bronzed. No Treatment, destroy affected plants , feed any remaining plants. Control greenfly, do not handle plants if you have handled tobacco.

G = GreenbackEffects Tomatoes. Symtoms: Area around the stalk remains hard, green and unripe. Cause is too much sunlight or too little Potash. Treatment: Shade the growing plants/greenhouse, apply Potash. Grow resistant varieties.
